About Me
Hi, I’m Hannah, and I’m glad you’re here. I completed my graduate education in Rehabilitation Counseling at Western Washington University, where I had the unique opportunity to learn specialized counseling skills related to supporting clients with disabilities. I identify as disabled and neurodivergent, and my own experiences with chronic pain led me to pursue a career dedicated to alleviating its impact on mental health. I know that living with chronic pain or a chronic illness can feel hopeless at times, and one of my goals as a counselor is to help my clients develop hope for a better tomorrow. I particularly enjoy working with neurodivergent individuals diagnosed later in life, as well as those exploring possible neurodivergence, and I affirm self-diagnosis.
I am a born and raised Washingtonian and currently live in South Seattle with my partner and our two cats, Juno and Minerva (aka Minnie). If you decide to start therapy with me, you’ll get to know Minnie as she often makes guest appearances in my therapy sessions. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy creative pursuits including fiber arts, flow arts, baking and cooking, as well as cycling, reading mystery novels, going out dancing with friends, and my daily mental health walks.
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (#MC61594153) practicing in Washington state under the direct supervision of Hannah Gunnin, LMHC (#LH61096275).
My Approach
My counseling style is non-judgmental, creative, and genuine, guided by person-centered and existential theory. My goal is to create a safe container for you to show up as your authentic self and receive unconditional support on your journey towards self-acceptance and finding meaning in your life. I use a collaborative approach, tailored to your individual needs. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. I draw from an eclectic mix of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I’m currently pursuing continuing education in the Hakomi method.
I am committed to social justice, anti-oppression, and cultural empathy and humility in my counseling practice. I affirm all intersections of race, ethnicity, ability, faith, neurodiversity, sexuality, and gender identity.
Areas of Specialization
Neurodivergence
I provide neurodiversity-affirming counseling for individuals with ADHD and Autism, focusing on strengths and self-acceptance. You don’t need to change yourself to fit into a neurotypical world. Let’s work together to identify your strengths and find accommodations for whatever is distressing you instead. I’m anti-ABA (applied behavior analysis) and my perspective is influenced by the large number of autistic people who have spoken out against this harmful ableist intervention. I have extensive training in neurodiversity-affirming care and seek out knowledge from neurodivergent-led organizations. I have lived experience with ADHD and late-in-life diagnosis. Whether you’re recently diagnosed, were diagnosed as a child, self-diagnosed, or questioning, this is a safe place for you.
Chronic Pain & Chronic Illness
Do you ever feel like nobody in your life understands the anguish of living with chronic pain or a chronic illness? Have you ever felt hopeless after being dismissed by a medical professional? Has the suggestion “you should try yoga” ever made your blood boil? I get it. My experience living with chronic pain is what inspired me to become a therapist. I will hold space for your grief, anger, and sorrow.
Disability
Are you experiencing ableism in your life and need help coping? Or maybe you’d like to examine and challenge your own internalized ableism. I’m dually licensed as a mental health counselor associate and certified rehabilitation counselor and received my master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, which is a counseling discipline focused on helping people with disabilities live independently and achieve their goals. I have specialized knowledge of disability rights, provisions of the ADA, disability accommodations, and the psychological and social impact of disability. I practice from a disability justice lens aligned with the social model of disability. I believe people with disabilities are capable of infinite possibilities. I have experience working with a wide range of people with disabilities, including physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, and traumatic brain injuries.
Anxiety & Panic
Do you find yourself consumed with worry on a daily basis? I specialize in helping individuals manage and reduce anxiety through a combination of therapeutic interventions, including mindfulness and somatic techniques. Focusing on the connection between the mind and body can help calm the nervous system and increase awareness of patterns of tension. Together, we will build a toolkit of coping strategies and work towards increasing emotional resilience so you can reclaim a sense of peace in your life.
If you’re dealing with panic attacks, we will work together to identify triggers, understand the physiological responses, and develop grounding skills to use in moments of crisis.
Eco Anxiety & Grief
The climate crisis is a collective trauma we are all experiencing right now and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or grief-stricken as we witness its impacts. I will work with you to develop coping strategies without invalidating your fears about the future of our planet and all who inhabit it. Together, we will acknowledge the weight of these feelings and explore how they connect to your values, sense of purpose, and desire for meaningful action. I’m a member of the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America and am currently pursuing continuing education in ecopsychology.
Psychedelic Integration
I have over a decade of experience volunteering and working in leadership roles in psychedelic harm reduction spaces with organizations such as Zendo Project, White Bird Rock Medicine, and Care Collective (formerly Conscious Crew). I’m honored to combine my counseling skills with my psychedelic harm reduction passion and expertise to create a safe, stigma-free, space for processing profound psychedelic experiences and integrating the teachings into daily life.
